Probiotic medicine is one of the most promising areas in the development of modern medical science, which is why the Bulgarian Association for Probiotic Medicine (BGProm) was founded in Sofia on September 18, following the establishment and dunction of similar scientific associations in Austria (OeProm) and Germany (DeProm).
Over 150 Bulgarian doctors from different specialties attended the constituent assembly. They will have the opportunity to participate in scientific sessions and clinical observations as well as in the creation of guides related to specific synbiotic combinations with therapeutic applications. Mila Kovacheva-Slavova MD, Assistant Professor at the Department of Gastroenterology at the Clinic of Gastroenterology at the Tsaritsa Ioanna-ISUL Hospital, was elected unanimously as the President of the Association, and Diana Milusheva MD, a holistic doctor and Medical Director at Vedra International, was elected Vice-President, and as Secretary was chosen Svetoslav Popov – Microbiologist, and Product Manager for Probiotic Products at Vedra International. The Association is supported by leading experts in the field of gastroenterology and infectious diseases, who became its honorary members – Prof. Borislav Vladimirov MD; Prof. Iskren Kotsev, MD; Prof. Krasimir Antonov, MD; Assoc. The role of the intestinal microbiome in the pathogenesis of various chronic and acute conditions is increasingly being discussed, and innovative studies are being conducted on the effect of synbiotic combinations. The establishment of the Bulgarian Association of Probiotic Medicine is a step forward in studying and putting into practice the latest developments in the world in the field of probiotic medicine.
